The Studio The studio is located in the lower level of the historic
Grand Central building, at 214 1st Avenue South, in the Pioneer
Square area of downtown Seattle. We are just 1/2 block north of Elliot
Bay Bookstore and within walking distance of numerous art galleries,
fine restaurants, and cafés. Why we do itThe Pottery School in Pioneer Square seeks to provide a space where people can, at least for a little while, put aesthetics and creative pursuit or practical craft at the center of their lives. Clay is the oldest craft for which we have record. For at least 8000 years adults and kids have put their thoughts, dreams and practical needs into clay. Once fired, it lasts practically forever or it can be used and smashed right away. Whether to try something new, to appreciate a art and craft more, to return to something you did long ago or to set on a journey to create art in your own voice for your self, for friends or for sale, The Pottery School seeks to provide the space, community and knowledge to help you do it. We share space and knowledge here to create things in clay. We all work here together and alone to think about what works and what is beautiful and interesting. I hope people learn to value and appreciate handcraft and art a little more, support it a little more, include aesthetics in their life and work decisions a little more, and keep creation of something part of their lives a little more. I like to think that this experience can add a small push towards recreating our world into a better place.ClassesClasses are small, with 4 to 8 students, and meet weekly for 9 weeks for 2 1/2 hours.
